5 Reasons Why Being a Young Mom Is Beneficial for You and Them

Becoming a young mom can be terrifying at times (many times). However, there are AMAZING benefits to it too!

You are no stranger to the negative stereotypes you have either heard or think people have about you, so let’s focus on all the positive there is because there is a lot momma!

Here are my top 5 reasons why being a young mom is amazing for both you and your little ones.

1. You get to grow up together

When someone says this to you it is easy to feel defeated. You can feel as if it is an insult and as if they are calling you a child. If we are being honest, that might just be the case. They might think of you as a child and over time you will learn to be comfortable with that, but don’t for a second think it is all negative.

Regardless of how they meant it, remember that yes, you do get to grow up with your child. You get to continue to adapt to change, learn new things and share that with them, and show them what growth looks like.

You get to be the best role model of how someone can grow and become someone they are proud of. Be proud of yourself momma because you have already accomplished amazing things and will continue to.

2. You have the energy

You probably know by now that it is not the fancy stuff a child needs. They don’t need the latest and greatest toys, classes, clothes, etc. What they need to truly be happy and feel loved is your time.

I am sure you have been in many situations where you saw a child crying out for attention from an adult that didn’t have the energy to give it. Maybe that was how you were raised.

Well, lucky for you and your little one, you still have all of the creativity and energy in the world and this will allow you to make that time together incredibly valuable and memorable. I hope you hold onto that energy for as long as possible.

3. You have a lot to learn, and you know it.

Every new parent has a lot to learn. There is making bottles, diaper changing, swaddling, etc. When the child is younger and rapidly changing, it is easy for most to accept they have to learn new things, but when that child is older and in school, some parents have resistance to change.

Whether it is common core math, the loud introduction to gentle parenting on social media, or cultural/societal changes like we’ve seen in 2020, some of these are just too much for some to adapt to.

However, you being a young mom, are used to and welcome adaptations and change. You expect it because that is all your life has been. You get to learn about all the new ways to live, parent and think. You can see things from a much broader perspective and therefore help your child with change.

You are learning, you always have been learning, and I hope you understand that you should never stop learning. The only thing you can count on is change. Continue to welcome it and help your little ones do the same.

4. You’re broke

Yep, I said it. You know it, I know it, we all know it. However, it’s up to you how you think about it.

If you could have perfectly planned out your life you may have decided to wait until you got that dream job, had the dream house, and were financially secure. That all sounds lovely, but also unrealistic.

You don’t have hundreds or thousands of dollars to spend on fancy clothes, a toy every time you go to the store, lavish vacations, or over-the-top Christmas. Good!

Your child will hear no, your child will learn how to appreciate what they do have, your child will learn to be grateful. You are giving your child a chance to safely learn very important lessons and for that momma be proud and stand tall in that.

5. You have the gift of time

You have been given the greatest gift, the gift of time. You are able to experience more years with your little ones and therefore make more memories.

Your children have a chance to share more time with their grandparents and possibly their great-grandparents.

Although you have more time which is great, it is never enough time. I know everyone has told you but they truly do grow up in a blink of an eye so take in as much as you can, the good and bad. Cherish the moments because that little baby that made you a mom and an adult will soon be experiencing their own adventures and if you’re lucky, they will also become your best friend.

Be proud to be a young mom!

There will be hardships, challenges, rough days, and mean people. You cant change that. However, you can always change how you think about it and how you act on it.

Remember there is always a good side, a light at the end of the tunnel, something to be grateful for. Whatever thought you need to keep you positive during the dark times, use it!

It’s not easy and it takes time but be SO PROUD to be a young mom! It is nothing to be ashamed of and you, my friend, are amazing!
