7 Easy Mom Hacks You Should Have Been Using From Day One

The internet is full of mom hacks. Some are helpful and life-changing, some not so much.

However, I am sharing my top 7 favorite mom hacks that are actually beneficial and still incredibly easy to use.

These mom hacks help to fix those mistakes the kids make, such as permanent marker on their face, and gum on their shirt.

Plus there are some just to help keep you sane, like limiting the volume on those loud toys.

Read on to see how you can hack mom-life!

Wash Away the Food Coloring

There is a lot of food coloring involved in mom-life. From baking, experiments, crafts, and so on.

No matter how many times you tell your kids they only need 1 or 2 drops, they still decide to squeeze in a fourth of the bottle.

Oh, and you can forget about trying to keep you and them clean. It always ends up on everyone’s hands, but yours always seem to be worse.

Well, quick story. My son and I were covered in blue food coloring (after a sensory bin gone bad) and we had a wedding to attend that night. I was anxiously searching for anything to take the food coloring away and I found this magical little gem!

Mix a small amount of dawn dish soap and baking soda to form a paste. Use this paste as soap while you wash with warm water. The food coloring instantly disappears and you are ready to get back to mom-life!

Stop Surprise Purchases Before It’s Too Late

We are in the 21st century and everywhere you look you can find some type of electrical device with the capabilities to purchase something online.

I am sure whoever came up with this plan did not have children because there are constant accidental (or purposeful) purchases being made by children.

Well, next time you give your kiddos your phone to play some games turn on airplane mode. This prevents them from downloading and buying ANYTHING because those darn ads can be tricky!

Remove the Permanent Marker From Their Face

Oh man do the kids love permanent markers! Is it because we try so hard to keep it from them or are they just born knowing how permanent it can be?

All jokes aside, it is an awful moment when your kids come in to show you the pretty makeup they did on each other or the superhero mask they drew on.

Your heart sinks and you want to yell, cry and laugh all at the same time.

Well, no more momma! If there was a foolproof way to keep the kids from getting the permanent markers we would have figured it out by now. Since there isn’t, how about a foolproof way to get it off of their skin.

If you spray some sunscreen onto a baby wipe and use that to wipe away the marker you will see that it instantly comes off. Now if they did decide to draw a mask or some eyeshadow I would be very cautious about wiping around the eyes.

Get the Gum Out of Their Shirt

You are not alone if your kids can never keep their gum in their mouths! They use the gum more for a toy than anything and it truly is disgusting.

Gum has ended up in hair, in the car, on the floor, and so on. Next time your crazy one gets it stuck in their shirt though you are going to have a plan ready.

You can put the shirt in a plastic bag and then in the freezer for about 2 hours. Immediately peel the hardened gum away and you’ve saved the day!

Turn Down That Toy!

Oh my, are those toys loud! It is always your kids’ favorite one that is the loudest and of course, they don’t come with volume control.

Well, next time you are about to lose your mind you won’t have to ask your kids to play with something else because this hack allows you to turn down the volume DIY style.

Simply take a piece of tape and place it over the speaker.

You can get away with this pretty easily with some clear scotch tape and with your toddlers and preschoolers. For your smart older children it will be up to them to leave it in place if they want to keep playing with it.

Finally, Get Those Stickers off

How many stickers do you have stuck places they shouldn’t be? On the cabinets, bedroom furniture, in the car, on mirrors?

Well good news, momma! You can finally get those off with this hack I learned from One Does Simply!

Mix a tbsp of baking soda and a tbsp of coconut oil to create a paste. Put this paste on the stickers and let it sit for a few minutes and then wash everything away! How awesome is that!

Use What You Already Have to Wash It All

Believe it or not, you already have the main things you need to wash away all the nastiness that comes with mom-life. I am talking about that dishwasher and washer.

Gather up all those plastic toys that are overdue for a good cleaning and throw them in the dishwasher! Of course, not the ones with batteries, please! So quick, easy, and efficient! Get more details on how and what to wash in your dishwasher here at Fun Cheap or Free.

Now about those Legos. You have probably seen this one from Gettin’ By before but I am sharing again because it is just so good! Gather those lego pieces, put them in a laundry bag, and give them a good wash in the washer. Afterward, let them air dry or you can dry them by hand.

What about those stuffed animals? There are so many of them and you don’t even want to know how dirty they truly are. Check the tag and if they are safe to be machined washed then throw them in a lingerie bag and go for it! You can then have them sit out to dry or use a hair blowdryer.

If they aren’t safe to be machine washed you can use a paste made out of a 1/2 cup of baking soda and some drops of vinegar. Brush the dirty spots or the whole animal with an old toothbrush and the paste. Wash it with water and dry it with a hair blowdryer.

Now You Know

Now you know the mom hacks you should have been using from day one!

Unfortunately, there will continue to be many other opportunities for you to use these hacks.

I hope these hacks allow you to limit stress and the next time your child runs to you about a mistake they made you can remain calm and fix the mistake together.

Please leave a comment sharing your favorite mom hack that you think all the moms in the world should know about.
