21 End of Summer Bucket List Ideas to Make Meaningful Memories

Well, the end of summer is here and it’s time to wrap up that summer bucket list.

You have spent most of it playing outside, driving the kids around to sporting events, practice and camp, and you’ve had many days at the pool. However, some of the best memories so far have been made right at home.

Even though these long warm days are coming to an end and school is approaching quickly, there is still plenty of time to have fun and make meaningful memories this summer.

If you are lucky you still have 3 more weeks to spend with the kids before school so here are 21 ideas, one for each day.

Some are easy and you can do them right at home and some are to get out of the house and go on a big adventure.

Your End of Summer Bucket List

1.

Make Popsicles

Not only is it fun, but it is also delicious! You can find simple or more detailed recipes. Here are 40 plus popsicle recipes for you to do with the kids.

2.

Shop Local

We can all agree that shopping local is best when you can. It would make a great activity for the day to take the kids to the local shops and let them get a few items either for themselves or for others.

3.

Carwash (Plus Those Toys)

Not only do you get your car washed, but the kids help by washing off all of those nasty outdoor toys. Throughout the summer they have gathered more than enough dirt and it’s a smart idea to wash them all while it’s still warm.

4.

Safari Park or Zoo

If you haven’t made a zoo trip this year, go ahead and squeeze it in. Also, if you’ve never taken your kids to a safari park I highly suggest it! Usually, they are more interactive, educational, and less crowded.

5.

Catch Lightning Bugs

Let the kiddos stay up a little past bedtime so they can go catch some lightning bugs. This is one of the most magical moments in childhood and is definitely an easy activity to create great memories.

6.

A Day on the Water

Get one last day in the water. Whether that is in the lake, river, or pond. Take the boat, jet skis, or kayak out one last time before it is time for pencils, backpacks, and composition notebooks.

7.

Drive-In Movie

If you do some searching you can usually find a drive-in close by. These are such a fun and easy experience for the kids and one of my family’s favorite activities. You can also easily make one in your backyard. Learn how here.

8.

Homemade Ice-Cream

Another fun and delicious activity for you and the kids. You can make this in so many ways. Easy or complicated, but I know you don’t want complicated so here is an easy recipe you can use.

9.

Make a Scrapbook of Your Summer

Have your kids ever scrapbooked? This isn’t done as much now of days but I bet you have attempted a scrapbook years ago. You may even still have it in the keepsake box. Introduce your kids to scrapbooking while they make a book all about this summer. Print out some pictures for them and let them go crazy with the embellishments.

10.

Have a Picnic

Pack your family’s favorites, go to the kids’ favorite park, and have a picnic. Easy peasy and lots of fun. Want to make it even easier? Forget making the sandwiches and stop at Subway on the way (or their favorite spot).

11.

Go to the National Park

There is something so beautiful about the national parks and it is so important to teach your kiddos the importance of keeping our Earth healthy. They will be amazed at the room they have to explore.

12.

Watch the Sunset

Have your kids ever watched a sunset? They are usually tucked in bed by then. We were at a family party when my son was eating outside and was amazed at the different colors he saw with a sunset. It is so worth the late night!

13.

Last Pool Day

Get in that pool one more time! Whether it is in your backyard or you are going to a public pool, have one more pool day. Go early, bring lots of sunscreen, and stay as long as you can.

14.

Concert/Music Festival

See what shows are coming up that you can take the kids to. There are often some great food trucks, activities, and games for everyone. Dance the day away.

15.

Squeeze Your Own Lemonade

Show the kids how to really make lemonade by making their own. They can customize it however they would like. See how you can make your own lemonade with this easy recipe.

16.

Baseball Game

We try to make at least one baseball game every year. There is always yummy food, lots of games, and who doesn’t love the peanut guy! See if your minor league home team has any upcoming games you can attend.

17.

Family Bike Ride or Hike

The bikes aren’t just for the kids! Have a family bike ride around the neighborhood or take them to the local park. If your kiddos aren’t quite that professional on their bikes yet, opt for a family hike.

18.

Go to a Farmers Market

If you have a farmers market nearby make an effort to go as a family. They are so calming, the people are so nice, and everyone can find something they like. Plus you are teaching your family how to support your local business owners so super high-five for that one!

19.

Tie-Dye

I know it can be a little scary, but give in for one day and let the kids tie-dye. Make sure to have plenty of shirts as I promise you one won’t be enough.

20.

Water Day

You don’t have to go far for this one. Just turn on the sprinkler, get some water balloons and water guns, and have a water day right in the backyard. One more crazy water play day for the summer!

21.

Amusement Park

This is a big one but so worth it! You know when school starts the schedule will just be too busy, so take advantage of the summer and go to an amusement park! Let your kids do one more roller coaster, try to win a few more games, and eat a bit more fried food.
